Harvest of Hope: Celebrating Ukrainian Culture and Supporting Children in Need

The Ukraine Volya Foundation, in partnership with Ukraine House in Washington DC, hosted an extraordinary evening of tradition, culture, and community spirit with the event "Diduch & Devotion: Celebrating Culture, Supporting Kids." Held in the heart of Washington, D.C., this gathering brought together supporters, donors, and advocates for a night that was as meaningful as it was memorable.

Night to Remember

The event celebrated the cherished Ukrainian tradition of crafting a Diduch, a symbolic Christmas decoration made from sheaves of wheat and dried flowers. Attendees learned about its significance as a symbol of harvest, prosperity, and the connection between generations. The hands-on activity created a warm and engaging atmosphere, blending education and cultural appreciation.

Guests were treated to an unforgettable music performance by a talented bandura player, whose melodies transported everyone to the heart of Ukrainian heritage. The evening also featured a screening of a poignant film made by UVF highlighting the work being done by the organization to support children in Ukrainian orphanages, deepening the impact of the event’s mission.

Honoring Community Leaders

A special highlight of the evening was the presence of Ambassador Oksana Markarova, whose steadfast support and inspiring words underscored the importance of coming together to make a difference. Her participation was a testament to the power of leadership and community in addressing the urgent needs of children affected by the ongoing challenges in Ukraine.

Making an Impact

Thanks to the generosity of attendees and donors, the event raised $3,300.00 to provide therapy sessions for 15 children in the orphanage in the Lviv region for three months. Every ticket purchased helped ensure that these children receive the care and support they need to heal and thrive.

A heartfelt thank-you also goes to our partners who made this event possible:

  • Ukraine House for co-organizing and hosting the event

  • The Ukrainian restaurant “ Ruta” for providing delightful snacks and wine

  • The talented musicians who created an enchanting musical backdrop

The evening concluded with an exciting auction, offering guests the opportunity to bid on unique items, with all proceeds going directly to support therapy sessions for 15 children in need.

Building a Community of Hope

The event was not only a celebration of culture but also a powerful reminder of the strength of community and the profound difference we can make when we come together. The outpouring of support reaffirmed the Ukraine Volya Foundation’s mission to bring hope and healing to society’s most vulnerable members.
